What Is CR Rubber?
Chloroprene rubber, better known in the US as Neoprene (Dupont’s tradename) is produced by polymerization of the monomer 2-Cchloro–1,3-butadiene primarily in the configuration trans 1,4. The crystallinity of CR is influenced by the amount of trans configuration in the polymer. CR are generally classified in general purpose, adhesive and latex types. CR is in no single property superior to all other advanced elastomers, but the combination of properties cannot be obtained with other types. Â
The different rubber grades are differentiated by crystallinity tendency, polymer viscosity, degree of precrosslinking and modifiers used during polymerization. Â
With increasing crystallization tendency green strength, tensile strength, modulus get higher. Flex fatigue resistance and resilience are also remarkable.Â
The increasing Mooney viscosity provides higher extensibility with fillers and oil, dimensional stability, green strength, mechanical properties, tear resistance, modulus and compression set resistance.Â
Â
Also CR can be blended with other polymers. The addition of NR improves elasticity, the addition of BR reduces the glass transition temperature and improves processing. The addition of NBR increases the resistance to oil swelling.Â
