Our Journey to a Greener K2019

In October 2019 the Global Plastics Industry once again met in Dusseldorf, Germany for the K2019 exhibition. As you can imagine sustainability was high on the agenda for visitors, exhibitors & media.

Our theme for the show was SOFT // SAFE // SUSTAINABLE, but it’s so much more than a catchy slogan. We’re excited to be part of a major shift in the way we view materials and we get a buzz from all things sustainable. We’re about more than words and we know our actions speak louder, so here are a few ways we’ve rethought, redesigned and reduced, ultimately contributing to a Greener K:

Stand Construction

RENEW // Wherever we can, we’ve used renewable or recycled materials: choosing wood over difficult-to-recycle materials and even table tops made from recycled yoghurt pots courtesy of Smile Plastics (smile-plastics.com).
That’s around 12,000 yoghurt pots rescued!

RECYCLE // Where it’s not recycled, it’s at least recyclable, such as our flooring.

REUSE // Many elements of the stand will be re-used at other exhibitions, after K we’ll be back in Dusseldorf for the Compamed show.

ENVIRONMENT // LED bulbs are reducing our energy consumption, and you’ll notice we’ve brought the outside in, with plenty of mood-boosting, air-purifying plants on our stand.

Biobased Water Sports Bottles

Printed Products & Giveaways

BIOBASED // Our customers make some very cool stuff with our materials, including Emballator Lifestyle (emballatorlifestyle.se). 71% of the materials used in our reusable bottle giveaways come from renewable sources, (and feature 2 of our products: Dryflex Green & Lifocork 🙂

REDUCE // Less trees, more tablets. We’re embracing digital, reducing both the amount of paper and the impact of transporting printed materials.

CIRCULAR THINKING // We’ve got business cards and product postcards printed on paper made from t-shirt offcuts – the stuff that normally gets thrown away, while still totally recyclable. Saving Trees. Rescuing Tees.

COFFEE // We’ve traded capsules for beans, our new coffee machine is bean to cup, no more coffee pods #iamacapsulekiller

WATER // Bye-bye bottles, we’ve a refill station for us and you.

FANCY A BEER? // We’ve got some Toast Ale made using surplus bread (and 100% of profit goes to food charities). toastale.com

NO MOO // Oat milk is available for your coffee (& other plant based goodies)

OFFSET // Our teams come from far and wide, where travel couldn’t be avoided, we’ve offset 16,000kg of CO2 with CHOOOSE  – supporting UN-regulated projects. This equals 54 flights from Oslo to New York. (chooose.today)

CARPOOL // We’ve hired a bus to take us to and from the Messe, so with around 20 team members, we’re putting a lot fewer cars on the road.
